Why young ravers should get more respect
As you all know, rave culture was built on respect and unity. The notion of people coming together under one roof, regardless of demographic, is a powerful pillar of this whole thing.
More recently, there’s been disharmony between age groups. Older people are shamed for still partying, and younger people criticised for “not doing it properly”.
Younger ravers are vital to the culture - here’s why you need to give them more respect…
THEY NEED GUIDANCE, NOT CRITICISM
Every one of you was a young raver once. The best way to learn this culture is through first-hand experience. But if you’re only criticised without guidance, how can you ever learn to be a better member of the community?
THIS CULTURE IS ABOUT UNITY
Opposing young people only deepens divisions, and no one benefits from that - apart from the powers that be. Finding ways to connect older and younger ravers is how the community stays strong.
YOUNG PEOPLE GREW UP IN A DIFFERENT WORLD
Anyone aged 18–25 has grown up with the internet, smartphones and social media as an inherent part of life. They literally know no different. Older generations have to accept that younger behaviour will feel a little alien, because their experience has been fundamentally different. As with anyone from another culture, there’s an opportunity for mutual learning, appreciation and compassionate education.
RAVES NEED YOUNG ENERGY
The majority of people going out are young - it’s always been this way. They bring the energy, enthusiasm and freshness to parties. They might do it differently than back in the day, but they’ll always be the bedrock of raves and the ones defining its future. If you’re part of the older generation, they’ll be looking up to you - so give them respect in return and be the role models who shape the culture we want to see.
