How to maintain your healthy rave habits (with Jess Bays)
Whether you’re deep in the rave or not, finding the time, energy or motivation to invest in your wellbeing can be challenging to say the least. Making a start is hard enough, but maintaining your momentum can be even tougher.
Complementing the party lifestyle with healthy habits can be crucial to maintaining a positive balance. Habits take many forms, such as exercise, a hobby, a good sleep routine, meditation, yoga, spending more time with friends, and so on
We spoke to @jessbays, DJ, producer, radio host, label head at @superstorerecords and Mental Health Ambassador at @droptheegoandtalk. Jess has been open about her own wellbeing journey and here she gives her advice on how to maintain your healthy habits…
COMMIT TO YOUR PASSION
It’s all too easy to get lost in the party and forget what else brings you joy. Staying true to your other interests will remind you to keep on looking after yourself and your needs, outside of the raves. Indulging in a hobby releases those natural endorphins, priceless.
MAKE YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE
Find people who will support your healthy choices and encourage, or call you out if you start to stray off course. It could be a friend, a work colleague, a partner, a rave buddy, a personal trainer or even a therapist. Making yourself accountable to others is a powerful motivational force.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD PEOPLE
Whether it’s friends or family, your circle has a big impact on your outlook and behaviour. Being with the right people can mean the difference between treating yourself with respect and maintaining a healthy outlook, or the complete opposite. So, don’t be afraid to be selective and assemble a supportive squad.
A lot of us get lost in short-term gratification. Thinking about the cumulative impact of your healthy habits and setting goals can be highly effective in staying on the right path. There’s a reason people who look after themselves are always advocating for a healthy lifestyle… because it really does feel so good. This can boost your enjoyment of the raves as well.
