For Kiimi, One Night at Adonis Changed Everything
Is there a party that shaped who you are today? Maybe it was a sunny day rave surrounded by your best friends, or a sweaty basement with some punchy Funktion-Ones?
In our new series, The Party That Changed My Life, we’ll speak to DJs and producers about the dancefloors that shaped who they are, not just as an artist, but to their core.
First up is Kiimi. The London-based artist debuted on Hotflush in 2021, and has since blossomed as a producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who inserts deep emotion into their club heaters. As well as sentimental, kickdrum-fuelled cuts like “Serotonin” and “Know Someone,” they’ve also worked with Denham Audio and remixed DJ Seinfeld—all while building Club Hunni, a community of FLINTA artists and underrepresented voices in music.
The party that changed Kiimi’s life was in 2021, an edition of the revered London queer rave Adonis at The Cause’s former Tottenham Hale location. “I went with all of these new friends I'd made during lockdown and heard all of this new music for the first time,” they told us. “It was a crazy, euphoric experience. It felt like this rebellion [after] being separated.”
Today, partying plays a vital role in Kiimi’s life for two reasons. “There’s the community element,” they explained. “Connecting with people who share the same interests as you, and late-night conversations. And my brain lights up so much when I hear music. It’s inspiring and mesmerising.”
