5 ways to resist temptation in the rave
Going out partying can be a minefield if you’re planning to take it easy. Whether that means you want to stay totally sober or just be a bit more measured with your intake, you’ll want to keep temptation at bay.
But temptation is everywhere. If it’s not your mates cracking on, it’s the whisper in the ear from people who want to sell you things, or even the bright lights and glimmering bottles at the bar. Here are five ways to resist the urge to get off your face…
MAKE YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE
Nominate a friend among your raving crew who is sensible enough to keep you on the straight and narrow. Tell them you want to take it easy and that you genuinely need their support. “Under no circumstances am I allowed to overindulge”.
COMMIT TO YOURSELF
In many cases, resisting temptation is an act of self-love. Take time to remind yourself of this before and during your night out. Discipline is a commitment to yourself and your wellbeing, stay strong.
REMEMBER, IT’S NOT BORING
One of the most limiting beliefs around moderation or sobriety is that it’s boring and you won’t be “fun” without chemical enhancement. This is absolute rubbish and it’s crucial to keep this in mind when you’re deep in the rave.
UTILISE THE POWER OF “NO”
This can be very difficult for a lot of people, but nurturing self-governance and the confidence to say “No”, even when the devil on your shoulder is screaming in your ear, can be very empowering. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.
THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES
It’s all too easy to slip up and get stuck in when you’re feeling the burn of peer pressure, or the need to conform, but the pay off can often be savage: a hangover or comedown amplified by self-loathing. Think about this before you give in to temptation…
