5 phrases you'll always hear ravers saying
Across the world, millions of people rave week in, week out. From South America to the outback in Australia, ravers unite and dance til dawn religiously.
But it’s not just music, dancing, connection and communal catharsis that we all have in common. You’ll always hear ravers saying similar things. Differences in language and slang aside, there are universal phrases that unite us across the world and here are five…
GOT ANY WATER, MATE?
Sober or not, raving is thirsty work at the best of times, and water is the elixir of life in any situation. On the dance floor, this is a request that could come from a friend or a random stranger, but whoever it is, you will certainly hear it at least once.
MEET YOU BY THE FRONT LEFT
For some unknown reason, front left is the spot of choice for ravers everywhere. So much so, it’s a wonder the whole dance floor doesn’t congregate there.
HOW ARE YOU FEELING?
“How are you feeling?”, or another variation, “Are you feeling it?”, represents a mix of concern for the person’s wellbeing and curiosity about how they’re getting on with their weapon of choice.
STICK TOGETHER SO WE DON’T GET SEPARATED
When you’re in a crew there’s a collective urge to keep the group intact despite how futile that might be. There will always be one person who utters the mantra, “stick together so we don’t get separated”, several times in the night, while insisting you all hold hands while working your way through the crowd.
STAY HERE, I’LL BE BACK IN A BIT
On the same tip, when you’re slipping off to the bar, toilets, or smoking area, you want to make sure your crew will still be there when you come back. Telling them to “stay there” is a standard practice. Whether they actually do is another question. Hopefully they’ll stay front left until you come back.
