5 phrases to calm your rave anxiety
As much as being in the party feels great and brings lots of life-affirming benefits, there are, of course, moments where it can be a bit too much. Anxiety can affect anyone at any time, and it’s totally fine not to feel ok sometimes.
Dealing with anxiety needn’t be an intimidating task worsened by shame or embarrassment. With these helpful phrases you can alleviate your troubled mind and hopefully get yourself into a better place.
MY ANXIOUS THOUGHTS ARE NOT THE TRUTH
It can be so easy to get caught in mistaking your thoughts for reality, worrying that something will go wrong at tonight’s rave. However, in the majority of cases, what you’re fretting about is actually very far from the truth.
I DON’T NEED TO FIGHT MY FEELINGS
It’s very common to fight against difficult feelings and emotions, which usually only serves to amplify them. If you feel uncomfortable, sad or fearful on the dance floor, the simple act of accepting how you feel will go a long way to calming your mind.
THIS TOO SHALL PASS
On the topic of acceptance, this is a big one. When anxiety takes over we can often feel overwhelmed and it’s as though the feelings will never go away. In the thick of a rave it can be particularly difficult when the anxious mind flies into action. Learning to accept that no difficult situation lasts forever is crucial to combating anxiety.
STOP, CLOSE YOUR EYES, BE STILL AND BREATHE
When it all gets too much you may not be able to find somewhere to escape to. An extremely useful method to calm yourself down is to simply go inward, close your eyes, stay still and breathe deeply. Just a few minutes of this on the dance floor, or anywhere else in the club, can work wonders.
I’LL DO THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT MY MIND SAYS
In situations where you’re almost paralysed by fear and anxiety, worrying that the next step means certain doom, try to push through to the other side. If you’re worried about going out, confront the fear by taking action and getting in amongst it. Happiness lies on the other side of fear, as they say.
