4 hard truths about rave friends
The party lifestyle brings you into contact with a lot of people, it’s a socially-driven culture. Of course, you have your core raving crew, good friends who you may have known for a while.
But there are particular relationships that form around a more superficial connection. Whether that’s a shared love of substances, codependency, exploitation or simply being caught up in a “friendship” that has no depth. Here are some hard truths about those false rave friends…
THEY CAN BRING YOU DOWN
Maybe you don’t want to go to the after-afters, or spend the last of your money on another bag, but their influence takes you down a rocky road. Would a true friend push you into squandering your money on another pointless gram?
THEY’RE NOT THERE FOR YOU WHEN YOU NEED THEM
Real friends will be there at the drop of a hat if you need them, whether that’s for an emergency phone call, a loan, or a big hug and a cup of tea. Fairweather rave friends are only in it for the good times, not the hard times.
THEY ALWAYS WANT SOMETHING FROM YOU
Ever spent time in the company of someone who never seems to have the money for a round, or only seems to hang around when you’ve got a baggy? This is a person whose connection to you is based on superficial things, not true friendship and respect.
YOU DON’T ACTUALLY TRUST THEM
Intuition is an in-built aspect of our psyche that can often be suppressed or ignored, to your detriment. If you have a feeling about this “friend”, then trust yourself. Would you invite this friend to a family meal, for instance?
Ultimately, there are many different types of relationships in social settings like raves, and there is nothing wrong with a short-lived few hours of adventure and mischief with someone you’ve never met. So, always be open to new people but take care to avoid slipping into destructive cycles, or welcoming people into your life who don’t have your best interests at heart.
