The comedown explained
After the euphoria and excess of a night, or weekend, of partying there is always the inevitable comedown. It’s that payoff we all expect to experience… what goes up must come down as they say.
Often it creeps up on you, and you can spend a day feeling glum and not really knowing why. You’re likely familiar with the idea that your serotonin levels are out of whack after a night of raving but there are also several other factors at play. Read on to find out what else is actually going on…
PURITY
Your substances could be mixed with any number of nasties, which could lead you to feeling cruddy in the aftermath of a rave. Before you get on it, try to test the purity of what you’re going to take. Goes without saying, the higher the purity, the less chances of a moody Tuesday.
BODY TEMPERATURE
Going out on a sesh exposes your body to high temperatures; being immersed in the crowd, dancing all night increases your chances of hyperthermia (when your temp rises to abnormal levels). Toxicity levels will also increase when you’re too hot.
WATER IMBALANCE
Most people are aware of the dangers of not drinking enough water. But drinking too much water is also a concern. Down too much of the clear stuff and your body’s natural equilibrium can be thrown out of balance which leads to a risk of hyponatremia (this is when sodium levels in your blood drop below normal). This can have serious, or even lethal consequences.
LACK OF SLEEP
Whether you’ve committed to an all-nighter, or you decide to head home at dawn, or maybe even decided to get on it for a whole weekend, you’re losing out on a night’s sleep (at least), which is a key factor in the onset of post-rave low moods.
PHYSICAL EXHAUSTION
After using up so much energy, and the brain’s hormone supply, you’ll be left feeling depleted. This, combined with the return to everyday life which is typically low energy, is the main cause of your comedown. After a particularly excessive weekend, this can feel like a very harsh crash landing.
