How to dance like nobody's watching
Dancing is one of the most intrinsic components of partying. Being able to express ourselves through movement of our bodies is a primal practice, and one which amplifies the rave experience.
For some of you, dancing may not come so naturally. Whether you’re concerned with others watching you, or a lack of coordination, or simply too shy to give it a go, it’s not an easy thing to do. Here are a few key tips for those who want to learn how to dance like nobody’s watching…
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Whatever you’re dancing to, it doesn’t have to be a choreographed routine. In fact, as a starting point, the simpler you keep it, the better. A simple side to side two-step should suffice.
THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG
It doesn’t matter how you dance as long as it feels good to you. Get out of your head and into your body, let the rhythm take you and express yourself freely. There really is no right or wrong.
MIMIC SOMEONE ELSE
If you’re having trouble finding your own expression, then look around and mimic someone else. Or take bits from other people, even a friend. What matters is that you find a catalyst to boost your confidence.
BE WHOEVER YOU WANT TO BE
On the dance floor we can take on any identity we want to. This means that your dancing persona could be completely different to who you actually are. Channel someone fierce and confident, dress powerfully and start cutting those shapes.
PRACTICE AT HOME
You might find that being at home on your own, when there really is nobody watching, sets you up for a strong night on the dance floor. Finding what’s comfortable for you and learning to move in time with music in the privacy of your own home can provide invaluable lessons for tearing it up on the dance floor.
CLOSE YOUR EYES AND MOVE
If you’re fearful of being watched and judged, make everyone disappear by closing your eyes. This will also allow you to become more in tune with your body, perfect for an unbridled dance.
