5 signs your partying has become toxic
Partying every week has many pros and cons. Living life in the fast lane can be so enlightening and enriching, but it can also spiral out of control.
There’s a fine line between hedonism and unhealthy excess, in fact, the lines between the two can be quite blurred (literally and metaphorically). It’s all too easy to fall into toxic patterns so pay attention to the signs…
FRIENDS AND FAMILY WORRY ABOUT YOU
“We hardly see you anymore”, “You look ill”, “You’ve become unsociable”... When your family and true friends start to air their concerns, you should really pay attention. Consider it a wake up call, they can see what’s happening when you can’t.
WHEN PARTIES COME FIRST
When you start prioritising raves over everything else, there’s a problem. Missing important family engagements, skipping work, cancelling on your best mates because “XYZ DJ is in town” - anything that negatively impacts your everyday life is a sure sign that you’re losing yourself to the party lifestyle.
NO RAVES = BAD MOODS
If you’re finding that life outside the party is like one elongated comedown, perhaps it’s time to slow down, or take a break. Partying too much and too often drains your body’s happy hormones - serotonin and dopamine - leaving you depleted, stressed and depressed.
YOU CAN’T SLEEP
Disrupting your circadian rhythm with marathon rave, and after party, sessions every weekend will play havoc with your sleep patterns. Not only will you have trouble sleeping, but you’ll also be sleep deprived, moody, fatigued and irritable.
DICING WITH DANGER
It often goes that the deeper you get into the party, the more dangerous it can become. Whether that’s partying with the wrong crowd, buying substances from dodgy dealers or simply pushing your mind and body beyond their limits - it all points to a lack of self-care, which can be very toxic.
