4 of the best places to dig for music
For the last few years vinyl sales have been rising steadily. From seasoned record collectors to those who are new to it, people around the world have been embracing the format and keeping record shops alive and kicking.
As highlighted in ‘Around The World In 80 Record Stores’ by @mgoldenbarnes there are still lots of places to buy records all over the globe. If you’re curious but not sure where to start with digging for music, here are a few key tips for immersing yourself in the world of record shopping…
RECORD SHOPS
Despite the resurgence in vinyl sales, a lot of record shops still teeter on the edge of survival. These essential spaces have always been a pillar of the rave scene, so it’s important that we do our utmost to support them as much as we can.
FLEA MARKETS & BOOT SALES
Wherever you are in the world you should be able to find somewhere similar to a flea market or boot sale. These can be goldmines for record collectors, where everyday people will be selling their old vinyl - often at rock bottom prices.
CHARITY SHOPS & THRIFT STORES
Similarly, charity shops sometimes receive donations from people who no longer want their records. It will usually take patience and diligence, but some gems can be found out there and that’s one of the most enjoyable aspects of digging.
DISCOGS
For some, Discogs has become a tricky place to navigate with consumer demand leading to some ridiculous prices on sought-after records, but there are still lots of bargains and special offers to be had. Again, digging is all about the work you put in, so carve out some time to dig deep.
